Jusi

Pronunciation: HOO-see

Origin: Silk fabric used for Filipino formal attire, often blended with piña for combined drape and lustre

A handwoven silk fabric used for barong Tagalog and ternos, often blended with piña for drape.

Jusi is a handwoven silk fabric used for Filipino formal attire. It has a softer drape than piña and a more affordable price point.

For weddings, jusi appears in barong Tagalog and terno gowns, especially as the base fabric for embroidery (calado, sombrado, callado). Pure jusi is silk; piña-jusi blends combine the structure of piña with the drape of silk.

When specifying barong fabric, the order from most to less premium is: piña, piña-jusi, jusi, jusi-cocoon, polyester. Jusi is the practical formal-wear standard; piña is the heirloom-tier choice.
